Process

Acquiring raw materials for IronStix is not a pretty business. There is no sipping of tea while suppliers preview their latest spring offerings. Instead it requires climbing over piles of discarded junk with heavy boots and a good pair of leather gloves. A current tetanus vaccination is a good idea too.

Once the raw materials have been selected, sorted, in some cases disassembled, and almost never cleaned, they are given new life through original, aesthetic configurations.

The iron oxide patina (i.e., rust) that forms on the finished pieces adds to their character. A clear lacquer coating can be applied to a purchased item on request, but typically the pieces are neither painted nor otherwise sheltered from this natural process.
