Birds held distinguished places in ancient tribal cultures. Their ability to take to the sky gave them a special place among animals in the mythologies and rituals of Native American history. And they still do. Traditional tribal decorations, expressed in the Aje [«Flight»], often included the plumage of birds as a way of honoring these extraordinary creatures and, too, as a way to capture their unique ability to soar.
